Achievements

According to The New York Times, "There are more than 1,000 literary magazines currently publishing.  That is more than at any time in history." (12/27/04, "Lit Love - The Age of Literary Magazines")

Only 300 of those American literary magazines, however, have survived 20 years or more.  Sensations Magazine is among those 300.

bulletIssue 1 released December 10, 1987, with 200 copies distributed to all continents, including Antarctica
bulletIssue 2 was our first issue with full color on the front cover
bulletIssue 3 was first literary magazine in America with a hologram on the front cover
bulletIssue 4 introduced the "Rediscovering America in Poetry" research series, a 10-year project which republished all extant American poetry from 1565-1670, and selections from 1671-1700, on acid-free paper
bulletIssue 9, "Sixth Anniversary Issue," won First Place, Design in American Literary Magzine Awards
bulletIssue 10, "Hope Against Hate," won Honorable Mention, Editorial Content, in the American Literary Magazine Awards
bulletIssue 12, "The 100th Anniversary of Coney Island's Amusement Parks," won First Place in the American Literary Magazine Awards
bulletPublisher David Messineo was awarded an Author Award by the New Jersey Institute of Technology for his "Rediscovering America in Poetry" research
bulletIssues 14-17 began the process of our being a literary quarterly, a process that ran from 1997 to 2005

bulletIssue 19, the 1999 "Millennium Turning" issue, at 250 pages, was our largest issue released in the 20th century
bulletIssue 20, "Scenic New Jersey," is believed to be the largest scale use of full color in any American literary magazine, with 45 of the 72 pages in full color
bulletIssues 21-24, 25-28, 29-32, 33-36, and 37/38/Fall 2005 Supplement/Winter 2005 Supplement made us a literary quarterly for five consecutive years
bullet2004 became the first year we released five new Sensations Magazine issues
bulletFall 2005 "The 2004 Presidential Election, One Year Later" raised $100 for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in 2006
bulletWinter 2005 "Losing a Child" supplement raised $600 for The Velie Memorial Fund in 2005-2006
bulletIssue 40, 2006, at 300 pages, was our largest issue in our 20-year history
bulletIssue 41, the 150-page Spring/Summer 2007, "20th Anniversary Fiction Issue" was our first full high-gloss issue since 1995.  It was both a critical success, and helped secure several new institutional subscribers
bulletIssue 42, the "20th Anniversary Spoken Word Issue," featured highlights from 15+ years of videotaped poetry readings, and a chronology of all events sponsored by Sensations Magazine, Gold Coast Performing Arts, and The Six Centuries Club, from Jan 1988 to Jan 2008
bulletAll Sensations Magazine issues published from 1987 (Issues 1-41) are sold out
bulletIssue 42 will be available for purchase in February 2008
