2005
A new era begins with a return to northern New Jersey ...

(Above) The 1991 Pontiac Sunbird, lead car for all
Sensations Magazine events since August 1991, turns 300,000--and
rolls with us into our 20th anniversary
. . . the release of two new issues and two thematic "supplements"--the
end of our quarterly publication era
. . .
Sensations Magazine continued its tradition
of independent publishing without grant funding in 2005:
 | Spring 2005 "General Theme" issue
(our first general theme issue since 2003) brought a mix of new
writers and older favorites |
 | Summer 2005 "Vacation" issue offered 10 pages
of full-color - the most in any single issue since the 2000
"Scenic New Jersey" issue |
 | Fall 2005 "Election" supplement was our first
non-magazine release since our 1997 Fiction Sampler |
 | Winter 2005 "Losing a Child" supplement raised
$500 for the Velie Memorial Fund (full sales proceeds going
to that organization) |
 | Book reviews included in Spring
and Summer 2005 issues |
 | Poets published in 2005: Doris C. Baker,
Baloian, Elaine Barden, Dennis Wayne Bressack, Beth Cagle Burt,

(in the Winter 2005 "Losing a Child" supplement) |
. . . and a healthy diversity of low-key
poetry readings, in pleasant surroundings and with pleasant people.

Yet the sour mood of half of the country
in 2005 leads us to examine why . . .

Election, One Year Later"

Vera Gelvin, Elaine Barden, Davidson Garrett, LaMar Giles, Velma
Jean Reeb, and Thelma Johnson

(Above) "The 2004 Presidential Election, One Year Later" has the
right-wing Republicans laughing - and many others griping. This
photo (apparently a composite) arrived in our e-mail. Since
it's being widely circulated, we'll put it up for a laugh. If
you can prove ownership, we'll take it down immediately, upon
request.
. . . and to take what action we can.
Joining the war effort, the Publisher declares war on those who are too cheap to pay a $2
per poem entry fee (and offers the Sponsor-A-Writer program for
those who truly cannot: being cheap and being in debt
are not the same) . . .

(Above) The Publisher rolls out the heavy artillery in his
escalating war against the astounding cheapness and selfishness of
SOME in the poetry community (present Sensations Magazine
subscribers naturally excluded)
. . . and, akin to Abraham Lincoln, appeals to "the angels of our better
nature" by donating a portion of proceeds from ALL issues, from
2006 forward, to a hand-picked selection of worthy charities--and
asks poets to join him in this effort, by purchasing magazine issues
and thereby supporting fellow writers, the poetry community, and his
merging of literary activity with charity support.

(Above) The Publisher donates full proceeds from the "Losing a
Child" supplement to the Velie Memorial Fund, and infuses literary
magazine publishing efforts with community activism and support, as he
commits a portion of proceeds from ALL future issues to selected
charities - and hopes subscribers will join in support.
